AUGUST 12, 2005 (IDG NEWS SERVICE) - Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer halted the steady market share advance of The Mozilla Foundation's Firefox browser in July, a Web site monitoring company announced today.
Last month, Internet Explorer, by far the most used browser, regained lost ground and pushed back the upstart Firefox for the first time since Version 1.0 of the open-source browser debuted late last year, according to NetApplications.com, an Aliso Viejo, Calif., maker of applications for monitoring and measuring Web site usage.

Firefox's share shrunk to 8.07% from 8.71% in June, while Internet Explorer grew its market slice to 87.2% in July from 86.56% last month.

Between January and June, Firefox had posted monthly market share gains of between 0.5% and 1% at the expense of Internet Explorer, according to NetApplications.com, which compiles its browser usage data from more than 40,000 Web sites monitored by its HitsLink.com service.

NetApplications.com has said in the past that reaching a 10% market share would be a milestone for Firefox that could help it win acceptance in the corporate market.

Apple Computer Inc.'s Safari ranked third and grew its share slightly to 2.13% from 1.93%, while America Online Inc.'s Netscape, which once ruled this market, slid a bit to 1.5% from 1.55%. Opera Software ASA's Opera came in fifth with a 0.49% market share.

No, please! We've not yet got a much better IE7.

Quake III source code GPL'ed within a week

NetApplications.com的统计数据并不能像W3School那样可靠

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

2005   IE 6   IE 5   Ffox   Moz   NN 7   O 8   O 7
August 68.1% 5.4% 19.8% 2.5% 0.5% 0.8% 0.3%
July 67.9% 5.9% 19.8% 2.6% 0.5% 0.8% 0.4%
June 65.0% 6.8% 20.7% 2.9% 0.6% 0.7% 0.5%

yes, it dropped a little bit at w3schools.com
well, two points:
1. wait for FX 1.5
2. wait for IE7 which will not run on win2k and 98

I believe Fx 1.5 will push fx a little bit to around 12%, and not sure what IE 7 will do, all depends on IE's performance. Up to now, I didnt see promising improvment of ie7, especially when its running on win XP, really not that fancy.

Firefox

Do you mean that existing FF users are switching back to IE6 just to wait for FF1.5 or IE7? That doesn't sound very reasonable. Unless those switched back were experiencing significant problem, they could simply keep using FF and waiting for the new releases.

I don't have your crystal ball but I do wish you're correct. No pressure from FF means no improvement to IE. How much IE7 would improve is mostly dependent on how far FF would go.

well, I just mean I will wait and see, i didnt require any other people do anything i would like them to do.
I dont care how much ie7 will improve, pressure is not from a product, pressure need to be put by people who want ie to improve, if only saying something like "i want ie to improve but i dont want to do anything about it", then thats basically saying nothing. and since M$ is not thinking their users, i dont see why user should support it.
I used gecko when it has 0.2% marketshare, and i used opera when it has 1.2% marketshare, for me, as long as my work can be done, there is no reason to go to ie.

Hmm, sorry I don't know what you're talking about, at least not sure how it relates to the previous posts.
