'The Guardian' on Being Forced to Use Internet Explorer Instead of Mozilla Firefox at the Office
Today's edition of The Guardian, the UK newspaper, has a humourous column about the horrors of being forced to use Internet Explorer rather than Mozilla Firefox at work. In metaphor-laden opinion piece, which appears as part of the Technobile series of rants, home Firefox user and freelance journalist Kate Bevan describes how "being dumped in front of a computer that insists on using IE is a nasty shock". Bevan has nothing but praise for the "wonderful" Firefox, with its tabbed browsing and extensions. In contrast, she hates being forced to use Internet Explorer when working in offices, particularly when the browser is installed on older computers. She describes in vivid detail how her IE sessions are plagued with popups and crashes. The piece ends with an impassioned plea for corporate IT departments to deploy Firefox. In addition to being available online, the opinion piece can be found in today's print edition of The Guardian on page four of the technology supplement. |
