Summary: Freevo release 1.7.3 is out

Freevo version 1.7.3 has been released. Freevo is a Linux application that turns a PC with a TV capture card and/or TV-out into a standalone multimedia jukebox/VCR/PVR/HTPC. It uses MPlayer or Xine to play and record audio and video. It is optimized for use with a TV+remote.

OpenOffice.org 2.3中包含的新特性已经于July 5th, 2007(UI and Feature_freeze : July 5th, 2007)左右敲定，即OpenOffice.org 2.3新特性已经冻结，将不会再新增到将来的这一发布版本（按计划是September 4th, 2007发布）。这其中新增的最大亮点当然是重新实现的新图表模块及随之带来的图表模块的持续改进。在Gullfoss文章中列出了两个已经解决的非常老的软件缺陷，即字处理中在不同缩放比例时编辑区域的居中问题，还有演示文稿中按指定路径移动的自定义动画的实现（主要是对这一动画效果编辑的实现），在此给出StarOffice 7中的一个国际象棋示例演示文稿文档供大家体验：Chess.odp（系采用OOo-Dev 2.3 m221加以修改后的示例文档）

Gullfoss — Improving Calc Usability: AutoSum

The Calc Ease of Use iTeam is currently attacking the most annoying usability issues in Calc. Our first issue was Calc's AutoSum feature.

AutoSum is used for summing up cell values automatically. If the user sets the cursor to the next empty cell of a row or column, which contains a series of values, and presses the Sum button in the formula bar, Calc automatically sums up the values and inserts the result as a sum formula at the cursor position.

A lot of users complained about Calc that it's not possible that the cells which should be summed up can be specified by the user, e.g. by marking the cell range with the mouse. This problem has been addressed in CWS calcautosum, which has been integrated into SRC680 m217 and will be available in OpenOffice.org 2.3. You can also download the recent developer snapshot build and give it a try.

这一实用功能的大致功能为，选中包含要求和数据单元格向右、向下各多一列与一行的所有单元格（如上图所示），然后按下求和按钮（就是上图中的那个符号了），就会将自动求和的结果放入相应列与行中。

最近还有很多激动人心的功能，如，在OpenOffice.org 1.1演示文稿模块中被良好支持的按预定路径移动的动画效果，在m220以后的版本（即未来的2.3版本）中会被重新得以完善支持（即能够编辑按预定路径移动的动画效果），特别需要说明的是，OpenOffice.org 2.x对相应的PPT动画效果是单向兼容的，即能够读取并正确进行放映，但不能进行编辑了，相应的CWS，如果大家感兴趣，可参考：

Stellarium 0.9.0 released!

The Stellarium team is proud to announce the release version 0.9.0 of Stellarium, the open source planetarium for your computer. Stellarium shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like you would see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope. Just set your coordinates and go.


New features for version 0.9.0:

* Larger star catalogue including stars from Hipparcos, Tycho2 and NOMAD (much of this available as a separate download)

There have also been a lot of minor bug fixes, and significant changes to the code base, which make it possible for third parties to write their own modules for Stellarium, (although the API is not stable yet).

GIMP 2.3.18 Development Release  2007-06-12

GIMP 2.3.18 is a snapshot of current development towards GIMP 2.4. The source code can be downloaded from the usual places. "Under the provisions of the agreement, Beijing Redflag Chinese 2000, which produces the popular OpenOffice.org-based RedOffice, will add to the open source project approximately 50 engineers, some of whom have been working on the OpenOffice.org project since the second half of 2006."

首届OpenOffice.org国际高峰论坛在京圆满闭幕

　　 2007年5月15日，“首届OpenOffice.org国际高峰论坛”在北京圆满闭幕。本次论坛是由中国开源软件（OSS）推进联盟主办、北京红旗中文贰仟软件技术有限公司承办的一次专业性、国际性的开源产业盛会。数百位行业专家齐聚一堂，对开源软件的推广、开源软件的创新、开源企业的商业模式以及相关标准等中外专家关注的前沿问题进行了多方位的探讨。

　　信息产业部产品司陈英副司长、中国开源软件（OSS）推进联盟主席陆首群、中国工程院院士倪光南、红旗中文2000公司总经理胡才勇、OpenOffice.org开源社区负责人Louis Suárez-Potts 先生、Sun公司OpenOffice.org项目负责人Michael Bemmer先生、Sun公司副总裁兼中国研究院院长王星耀在论坛分别作精彩演讲。

同时，在会上红旗中文2000公司与Sun公司OpenOffice.org项目负责人Michael Bemmer先生签署了全面合作协议，该协议的签署表明了红旗中文2000公司已经开始全面加入到OpenOffice.org社区当中，红旗中文2000公司将会在世界领先的免费办公套件开发中，对全球OpenOffice.org社区做出贡献。实际上，在这次协议签署之前，红旗中文2000公司就已经研发了著名的基于开源软件的RedOffice办公套件，而且红旗中文2000公司目前拥有一支超过50人的开源研发队伍，并从去年夏天就开始研发该项目。Sun公司OpenOffice.org项目负责人Michael Bemmer先生说“我们已经看到了与红旗中文2000公司合作的前景，而这次协议的签署也是一个好的开始。”

Release of Bugzilla 3.0!

In 1998, the first open-source version of Bugzilla, 2.0, was released to the world without much fanfare, just this little post  on the netscape.public.mozilla.announce newsgroup.

Nine years later, Bugzilla is used by thousands of companies around the world with millions of total users. It has become the de-facto standard in open-source bug tracking. Thousands of companies have moved away from their costly commercial bug-tracking systems to Bugzilla, usually finding Bugzilla more flexible and more full-featured than the system they'd been paying thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars for, and proving that open source software really can produce a competitive product.

Today, the Bugzilla Project is extremely proud to announce the release of Bugzilla 3.0, and just like Terry said in 1998, "We like the new version much better, and hope you will too."

Here's just a sampling of the major new features in version 3.0:

    * Custom Fields
    * mod_perl support for greatly-improved performance
    * Per-Product Permissions
    * XML-RPC Interface
    * Create and Modify Bugs by Email
    * and much, much more...

Bugzilla 3.0 also has a much-improved code base over previous versions of Bugzilla. Improvements are still happening, but long-time customizers and coders of Bugzilla will notice significant improvements. And if you haven't seen Bugzilla code since 2.16 or so, prepare to be (pleasantly) surprised!

As always, we welcome open source contributors to Bugzilla, which is made entirely by volunteers around the world. You too can be part of the team that makes a product used by thousands of people daily.
