Gullfoss — Improving Calc Usability: AutoSum

The Calc Ease of Use iTeam is currently attacking the most annoying usability issues in Calc. Our first issue was Calc's AutoSum feature.

AutoSum is used for summing up cell values automatically. If the user sets the cursor to the next empty cell of a row or column, which contains a series of values, and presses the Sum button in the formula bar, Calc automatically sums up the values and inserts the result as a sum formula at the cursor position.

A lot of users complained about Calc that it's not possible that the cells which should be summed up can be specified by the user, e.g. by marking the cell range with the mouse. This problem has been addressed in CWS calcautosum, which has been integrated into SRC680 m217 and will be available in OpenOffice.org 2.3. You can also download the recent developer snapshot build and give it a try.

最近还有很多激动人心的功能，如，在OpenOffice.org 1.1演示文稿模块中被良好支持的按预定路径移动的动画效果，在m220以后的版本（即未来的2.3版本）中会被重新得以完善支持（即能够编辑按预定路径移动的动画效果），特别需要说明的是，OpenOffice.org 2.x对相应的PPT动画效果是单向兼容的，即能够读取并正确进行放映，但不能进行编辑了，相应的CWS，如果大家感兴趣，可参考：

OpenOffice.org 2.3中包含的新特性已经于July 5th, 2007(UI and Feature_freeze : July 5th, 2007)左右敲定，即OpenOffice.org 2.3新特性已经冻结，将不会再新增到将来的这一发布版本（按计划是September 4th, 2007发布）。这其中新增的最大亮点当然是重新实现的新图表模块及随之带来的图表模块的持续改进。在Gullfoss文章中列出了两个已经解决的非常老的软件缺陷，即字处理中在不同缩放比例时编辑区域的居中问题，还有演示文稿中按指定路径移动的自定义动画的实现（主要是对这一动画效果编辑的实现），在此给出StarOffice 7中的一个国际象棋示例演示文稿文档供大家体验：Chess.odp（系采用OOo-Dev 2.3 m221加以修改后的示例文档）

This new feature allows you to install applications at the single click of a button. More announcements on the way this is used are to come.

KDE 4: In the early stages of development we noted that openSUSE was to be among the early adopters of KDE 4.0, and we can start to see this coming through in openSUSE 10.3. The latest stable KDE 3.5.7 is included as the default KDE session, but this release also includes some KDE 4 applications (such as KDE games) in by default. All other parts of KDE 4 are directly available in the official online repositories, and of course the KDE 4 repository in the openSUSE Build Service will continue to regularly release snapshots.

背景介绍：

    上海中标软件有限公司(“中标软件”)参与过多项国内标准的制定工作，早在UOF（中文简称“标文通”）小组成立之前直到现在一直不间断从事办公文件文档格式标准制定和开发等相关工作，并且2004年就开发出了支持UOF标准的办公软件－－中标普华Office(Neoshine Office)，尤其在办公文件开发应用及其文档格式标准化等工作中积累了对办公文档格式标准相关工作的深厚理解。

上海中标软件针对陈永正先生三点看法的一些理解

一、标准应该开放，并非是指要拥护多个标准的共存，尤其是涉及到信息交换的文档格式标准尤其如此。既然中国已经有了UOF国家标准，国际上ISO已经通过了ODF标准，并且两者之间存在一定的相融性，我们看不出需要支持更多标准的理由，这不能简单地被视作国内一些组织的做法，在国际上同样有很强的反对呼声；此外，既然强调标准要开放，在制定OOXML的时候，微软又采取了哪些开放的态度与做法呢？在 OOXML中采用了国际上广泛接受的开放标准吗？在制定OOXML时考虑了在非Windows平台之上如何能全面而完全地实现OOXML的支持吗？需要明确指出的是，大家反对OOXML成为标准，是因为认识到了支持OOXML成为国际标准，才真的是对文档格式的开放性“说不过去”。

二、关于历史文档问题，恰恰是微软封闭文件格式造成的后果。 “微软秉着对用户负责的态度，理当推广OOXML”，其表明的意思就是OOXML无其它可替代方案，要想打开历史文档，必须推广OOXML。但值得注意的是，OpenOffice在世界范围内的通行，以及国产办公软件对有关国际标准和UOF的支持也同样产生大量文档，也不是OOXML本身可以解决的；此外，随着以Linux为代表的开源软件的普及，在Linux上办公的用户越来越多，OOXML在此方面是否做了充分考虑呢？事实是OOXML中依然如同以往文档格式中一样充斥着大量对普通用户和开发者的不透明信息，并且6000多页的文本，除了微软，相信世界上在办公软件领域很难有第二个对OOXML的良好实现。因此，OOXML应该在进一步做出更加开放透明的工作后再来推动其成为国际标准，可能才是对用户、对产业负责的态度，而不应采取到处拉票、游说、甚至给予某种许诺的特殊方式来强推并不完全开放的OOXML。

三、说起转换器，理论上讲是可以实现支持良好的转换的，但现实是只有通过多方的共同配合与努力，才有可能实现良好转换，而且实现 100％的兼容难度极大。需要认真思考的是，如果OOXML与ODF、UOF都能实现良好的转换，那OOXML的存在理由又是什么？目前微软所说的转换器，不过是一个形式而已，离实用还有太大的差距。然而，多一个文档格式标准所带来的巨大的工作量（包括实现该标准、实现不同标准间的转换以及测试验证等），对政府、广大用户、开发者等都会增加了太多的额外消耗，这不是我们所希望看到的。

总之，所有的一切相关工作都应该从结合国际、国内具体情况来定位事物的发展方向。支持OOXML决不能解决国内办公文档问题，也绝对不可能“对中国标准成为国际标准起正面作用”，相反，如果OOXML成为国际标准，只能陡增额外工作，并且带来更多“不开放”的因素。谁真正开放，谁心里知道！

The next stable GIMP release is close. The developers made available a first release candidate for GIMP 2.4.0. This marks the end of the development cycle towards GIMP 2.4. All new features should be complete and the API is now frozen. There are however still a few bugs to fix and some minor changes pending in some places.

If you want to help by testing this release candidate, you can grab the source code from ftp.gimp.org. The release notes for the development releases still apply.

　　三是：为了便于管理，比如对已经提交的信息进行修改，可以采用用户注册的形式。不过，这就需要再增加一个管理页面和申请页面。
　　四是：制作一些联盟的LOGO，需要美工人员。
　　还有什么别的，大家也可以帮忙，都弄齐了，CrossBud就可以动手整合了。

Vote closes on draft ISO/IEC DIS 29500 standard

A ballot on whether to publish the draft standard ISO/IEC DIS 29500, Information technology – Office Open XML file formats, as an International Standard by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) has not achieved the required number of votes for approval.

The five-month ballot process ended on 2 September and was open to the IEC and ISO national member bodies from 104 countries, including 41 that are participating members of the joint ISO/IEC technical committee, JTC 1, Information technology.

Approval requires at least 2/3 (i.e. 66.66 %) of the votes cast by national bodies participating in ISO/IEC JTC 1 to be positive; and no more than 1/4 (i.e. 25 %) of the total number of national body votes cast negative. Neither of these criteria were achieved, with 53 % of votes cast by national bodies participating in ISO/IEC JTC 1 being positive and 26 % of national votes cast being negative.

Comments that accompanied the votes will be discussed at a ballot resolution meeting (BRM) to be organized by the relevant subcommittee of ISO/IEC JTC 1 (SC 34, Document description and processing languages) in February 2008 in Geneva, Switzerland.
