为了Firefox等软件获得更大的发展潜力，Mozilla基金组织计划成立一个赢利性的分支企业。该计划将在8月3日（美国东部时间）正式对外宣布。

Firefox 2004年11月正式发布，在与微软IE浏览器的竞争中获得令人瞩目的市场份额。一些分析专家已经预测Firefox达到了10%的市场份额。目前，Firefox的官方下载次数已经超过7，500万。

Firefox的成功很大原因在于IE浏览器的安全性能给网络冲浪带来不安全的隐患，同时，Firefox也积极开发出一些颇受欢迎的应用性能，让越来越多的IE用户渐渐转向Firefox。

基金组织管理人员表示，赢利性企业的成立希望能给Firefox 的发展带来更大的帮助，Firefox 将会在一定费用的基础上提供服务和相关支持。而这一行动将超出原有非赢利组织的行动范畴。

据悉，Mitchell Baker，前Netscape 律师，目前 Mozilla基金组织的领导者将出任新的赢利性企业 Mozilla集团公司的大老板。新成立的Mozilla公司将是一家纳税企业，但其目的并不是以保证股东的利益为目标，而是促进基金会的目标的发展。 Mozilla基金会创建于2003年6月，目标是促进开放源代码的发展，开发出具有竞争力的网络浏览器。

目前，Mozilla基金组织有40名员工，他们中的绝大多数将转到Mozilla企业，但负责Firefox开发工作的Mozilla项目运作不变，目前正在开发Firefox 1.5版本，计划在今年9月发布。Mitchell Baker表示，Mozilla企业不会考虑成为上市公司。

Mozilla基金组织早前声称，微软IE浏览器的正版化将使更多的人转而投向Firefox的怀抱，因此，微软的正版增值运动只会有利于Firefox 的发展壮大。如今，Mozilla企业的成立，让Firefox向赢利目标迈出了第一步，对市场会带来怎样的影响，相信用户会非常关注。

假新闻，fx仍将是免费软件。Mozilla公司的功能不过是周边产品的赢利模式，以及雇员的商业模式。所有软件产品依然免费，而且仍然开源，仍然和以前一样运做。终端用户不会有任何感觉。
建立公司是因为在“非盈利”的类别下注册的机构不能接受特定种类之外的捐款，不能和某些盈利公司建立合理的商业伙伴关系。
Fx Tb将会有新的子公司来发布，基金会将负责整体项目，所有产品仍然免费，他们的收入将来自商业伙伴关系和附属产品的销售（fx的T-shirt等等）。

However others may distribute versions of Firefox and Thunderbird in accordance with the Mozilla trademark policy; they are also free to distribute Mozilla-based products under their own brands.
Will users need to start paying for Firefox?
    No. Firefox and Thunderbird will remain as they are today: free (i.e., no charge) products based on open source code.
Will the Mozilla Corporation be an exclusive distributor of Firefox?
   No. Others may distribute versions of Firefox and Thunderbird under the same terms currently in effect; see the Mozilla trademark policy for more information.

理解理解，毕竟firefox做大也不是件容易的事

其实也可以适当的收取费用，不过就目前看来FF还不具有收费的资本。。。
